About the Role
Lead the entire engineering organisation. Own technical roadmap, culture, and team growth as we scale from 0 to millions of users.
As Head of Engineering at Twari, you'll build and lead our entire engineering organisation. You'll work directly with the CEO and product leadership to define technical strategy, establish engineering culture, and scale the team from 10 to 50+ engineers. This role requires a rare combination of technical depth, people leadership, and strategic thinking.
What You'll Do
- Build and lead the engineering organisation (currently 8 engineers, scaling to 30+)
- Define technical roadmap and architecture strategy with CEO and leadership team
- Own hiring, onboarding, and retention across all engineering teams
- Establish engineering culture, processes, and best practices
- Drive execution on key company initiatives and product launches
- Manage engineering budget and resource allocation
- Partner with product and design on long-term platform vision
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of software engineering experience
- 5+ years of engineering leadership experience (managing managers)
- Proven track record of scaling engineering teams from 10 to 50+ people
- Deep technical background with hands-on experience in modern web/mobile stacks
- Strong hiring, retention, and talent development skills
- Experience with fast-paced startup environments and ambiguity
- Excellent communication and executive presence
Nice to Have
- Experience at high-growth consumer social or discovery companies
- Background in machine learning, recommendations, or search systems
- Experience building remote-first engineering organizations
- Technical blog, open source contributions, or speaking experience
